Keep Toothbrushes Clean (No Mildew or Moldy Smells) with Hydrogen Peroxide

A handy tip of household hints sent in by one reader was this:

Store your toothbrushes in a small bowl of hydrogen peroxide. (Or at least let them soak in there for about 10-15 minutes on an occasional basis.) The hydrogen peroxide helps disinfect the toothbrushes, which have been found to carry all sorts of harmful microscopic substances (Yes, often mold or mildew).

How to Report Mold Problems to Landlords

If you've discovered in the rental home where you live that there is a mold problem, you'll need to contact your landlord (the owner) to inform them about the mold problem. It is then their responsibility to have the mold issue dealt with properly - but it is your responsibility as a renter to inform them of this problem as soon as it occurs, to prevent the mold infestation from worsening.

Removing Mold with Hydrogen Peroxide

Another alternative to removing small amounts of mold in your home is to use hydrogen peroxide. It's a far better alternative for some people than bleach, since bleach can be very hard on the lungs. (This is especially so for people with sensitivity or allergies to chemicals.)

Spraying the moldy areas with a full-strength hydrogen peroxide spray is an effective way to kill mold. It's also an excellent way to keep mold from coming back in areas you've had problems with mold before.
